The Platinum@BCN office complex, located in the 22@ district, has been recognized as one of the most sustainable buildings worldwide, achieving LEED Platinum certification with a record score of 101 points.
From the outset, the building was conceived with a design strategy that prioritized sustainability and reduced energy consumption, responding intelligently to site-specific conditions such as the urban environment, solar incidence, and the building’s intended use. The two lateral volumes flanking the complex align in height with the neighboring buildings, while the central volume concentrates the maximum buildable area in order to free up a large common plaza.
To mitigate the urban heat island effect, the complex incorporates green roofs, expansive terraces that transform the workplace into a social setting fostering outdoor life, and a central courtyard that acts as a green lung within a typically industrial neighborhood. This courtyard also offers a public gathering space, thanks to a large open passage that provides direct public access.
A double-skin façade of aluminium louvers envelops the most sun-exposed elevations, acting as a filter and creating a denser pattern of shading that significantly reduces energy demand.
The distinctive design ensures that all workspaces in the complex benefit from exterior views and natural light, which greatly enhances user well-being and improves working conditions.
In addition, the building is equipped with photovoltaic panels capable of covering its entire electricity consumption, as well as greywater and rainwater reuse systems, and an innovative thermo-active foundation system that harnesses geothermal energy from the ground.
