Passeig de Gràcia 93

Located on Passeig de Gràcia, one of Barcelona’s main commercial thoroughfares, this rehabilitation project coexists with icons of Catalan Modernism such as Casa Amatller by Puig i Cadafalch, Casa Batlló, and Casa Milà by Antoni Gaudí. It is grounded in the coexistence between modernist architecture and new contemporary interventions.

The project proposes the preservation of the main façade facing Passeig de Gràcia and the lateral façade along Passatge de la Concepció. It maintains the stately character of the building and the rhythm of solids and voids typical of this part of the city, while at the same time generating a new interior façade based on a concept of contrast with the existing ones.

This contrast seeks nothing more than to highlight the pre-existing elements that are preserved, while also creating a new volume that adds two additional floors above the original structure and introduces a new façade configuration that is far more dynamic and permeable.

The language of the new façade extends seamlessly from the two upper floors and descends along the rear of the building, embracing the existing architecture through a double skin of operable bronze shutters.

Inside, an octagonal courtyard that spans vertically across all the floors of the building is also clad with shutters in the same material. Creating a sense of vibration through the play of zenithal light filtering in from the large skylight.
