The project is organized in the shape of a cross through a series of modules arranged around a central courtyard. The courtyards provide support, light, and ventilation to the main spaces. Each of these modules accommodates a part of the program — the administrative area on one side, and the cognitive rehabilitation unit and day center on the other. The plot allows for large outdoor areas dedicated to therapy, with gardens designed to promote sensory stimulation.
The building was constructed using a prefabricated cross-laminated timber system which provides high modularity and flexibility of use. Essential in the day center, the use of movable partitions allows the creation of more controlled spaces without sacrificing the openness of the whole, ensuring adaptability according to the needs of each moment. Circulation areas are organized along the inner zone, so that each module contains a space that serves the communal and activity areas.
In terms of appearance, the project seeks simplicity and honesty in the use of materials, showcasing the natural character of wood and concrete.
The outdoor area is divided into six distinct yet interconnected spaces, defined by the building’s projection towards the exterior. These areas allow users to engage, interact and improve their physical and overall well-being.
In the central courtyard, a centuries-old olive tree has been planted, fostering a connection with the outdoors and nature from anywhere within the building. The interior and exterior design, together with the selection of plant species and furniture elements, share a common goal: to create a sense of well-being, warmth, and simplicity, enhancing the quality of life of the users.
