Castell de Peralada event center

In 1877, the Franco-Belgian landscape designer François Duvillers walked around the Peralada Castle, a 14th-century medieval fortress located in the Empordà, to study the terrain and define the design and vegetation of the French-style garden and park that still surround the castle today.

The project for the event center is located here with the aim of complementing the activity of the Castle, making its setting and distinctive cultural significance the guiding principles of the design.

From the outset, the project considers the preservation and protection of the existing vegetation, as well as the essential relationship between the Castle’s main building, its annexes and the new volume.

The architecture is conceived as a covered plaza designed to host various events. The boundaries between interior and exterior become blurred, while the roofs of the pavilions take on the main compositional role within the project.

The arrangement of the volumes establishes a continuous visual and material dialogue with the Castle through large glass façades and an exterior materiality that combines natural stone with carefully detailed iron elements lacquered in earthy tones.

Thus, light, breeze, and the outdoor space flow naturally into the interior of the halls.
