Trossos del Priorat

Surrounded by unspoiled nature and set on a rugged, rocky terrain, the winery and hotel offer unparalleled views over the Priorat. The winery opens towards the valley and the village with a program that includes a space dedicated to promoting wine culture.

The project’s response to its context is an architecture that blends into the landscape through a design integrated with the territory. By taking advantage of the natural slope of the land, the building is organized according to the natural sequence of the winemaking process.

The project unfolds along a central axis that places the common areas towards the most exposed side. Creating a viewpoint over the vineyard and acting as a filter with respect to the winery, which is located on the more subterranean side.

The openings of the guest rooms and the winery exits enable exterior circulation among the vineyards, culminating in the tasting area for wine degustation.

The overall aesthetic is minimalist. Clean lines and interiors inspired by underground nature, featuring a color palette drawn from the tones of the earth and a materiality based on the natural authenticity of stone, exposed concrete, and metal.

Sustainability was a key aspect of the design. Natural ventilation and thermal mass enable passive cooling, while energy-efficient glazing and proper insulation minimize energy demand. Greywater and rainwater are collected and reused for irrigating the outdoor areas.

The largely prefabricated construction and the reuse of excavated soil to build the surrounding agricultural terraces were key factors in executing this project with minimal environmental impact.

From a distance, its intention is to be perceived as part of the terrain, fostering a respectful relationship with the natural and productive environment of the site.
